Nephrology
Julian Gillmore
Professor Julian Gillmore is Professor of Medicine at University College London and an Honorary Consultant Nephrologist at the Royal Free Hospital. He is Head of the UCL Centre for Amyloidosis and Research Lead at the UK National Amyloidosis Centre. He trained in nephrology and undertook both MD and PhD degrees in the field of amyloidosis. His research focuses on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of systemic amyloidosis, with particular expertise in transthyretin amyloidosis.
Hematology
Monique Minnema
Professor Monique Minnema is Professor of Hematology and an internist-hematologist at UMC Utrecht. She specialises in B-cell malignancies, particularly plasma cell disorders including multiple myeloma and AL amyloidosis, as well as Waldenström macroglobulinemia. She leads the hematology clinical research team and hematology biobank at UMC Utrecht. Her clinical research focuses on the development of novel cellular and drug therapies for plasma cell disorders and other B-cell malignancies.
Cardiology
Thibaud Damy
Professor Thibaud Damy is Professor of Cardiology and Head of the Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Unit at Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris. He also leads the French Referral Centre for Cardiac Amyloidosis within the Cardiogen network. He founded the Mondor Amyloidosis Network in 2009, creating a multidisciplinary structure dedicated to the diagnosis and management of amyloidosis. His clinical and research work focuses on heart failure and cardiac amyloidosis, including early diagnosis, imaging, biomarkers and treatment. Since 2010, he has coordinated the Réseau Amylose, the French national network for amyloidosis care and referral, and he also co-coordinates the F-CRIN GRACE clinical research network dedicated to cardiac amyloidosis.
Rare diseases
Laura Obici
Dr Laura Obici is a consultant at the Rare Diseases Unit and the Amyloidosis Research and Treatment Centre at IRCCS Fondazione Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia, Italy. Her clinical and research activities focus on systemic amyloidosis, including hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis and inflammatory amyloidosis. She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary forms of amyloidosis and has contributed to international research and clinical studies in the field.
Cardiology
Fábio Fernandes
Dr Fábio Fernandes is Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the University of São Paulo Medical School and Head of the Cardiomyopathy Unit at the Heart Institute (InCor), University of São Paulo, Brazil. His clinical and research activities focus on cardiomyopathies, heart failure and cardiac amyloidosis, with particular expertise in transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiac amyloidosis and has contributed to numerous national and international research initiatives in the field.
Internal medicine
Sophie Georgin-Lavialle
Professor Sophie Georgin-Lavialle is Professor of Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology at Sorbonne University and Tenon Hospital, AP-HP, in Paris. She coordinates the adult component of the French Reference Centre for Autoinflammatory Diseases and Inflammatory Amyloidosis. Her clinical and research activities focus on autoinflammatory diseases, including familial Mediterranean fever, VEXAS syndrome and AA amyloidosis. Since 2025, she has served as Autoinflammatory Diseases Stream Lead within the European Reference Network ERN RITA.
Cardiology
Pablo García-Pavía
Dr García-Pavía is Head of the Heart Failure and Inherited Cardiac Diseases Unit at the Department of Cardiology of Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro in Madrid. In addition to his work at the Hospital, he is also Research Professor at the Spanish National Research Institute (CNIC) and Associate Editor of Revista Española de Cardiología. His areas of research include inherited cardiomyopathies, heart failure and amyloidosis, and he has published more than 350 articles in peer-reviewed journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, European Heart Journal, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Nature Communications, Nature Medicine and The Lancet.
Neurology
Márcia Waddington-Cruz
Dr Márcia Waddington-Cruz holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Neurology from FM-UFRJ and is a specialist in Clinical Neurophysiology certified by SBNC/AMB. She is Professor in the Postgraduate Program in Clinical Medicine at FM-UFRJ, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She is Principal Investigator at the CEPARM Amyloidosis Reference Center at the University Hospital of UFRJ, Coordinator of the Amyloidosis Care Line at the Américas-Vitória-Samaritano Barra RJ Hospital Complex, and Principal Investigator at the American Institute of Science and Education.
